Counselling Trainee

We are seeking volunteers with some career coaching, counselling and or career counselling experience to work with members looking to make a career change, find a job or improve their skills.  Because many seeking career support do not have the means to pay for that counselling, we are offering the first 3 sessions free of charge.  After 3 sessions, we will charge $40 a session to cover our supervision costs.

Volunteers receive both one on one supervision and attend group case management discussions from an experienced supervisor and Fellow of the American Counselling Association.  We follow UBC’s Counselling and Psychology Department’s guidelines for the ratio of contact hours to supervision.

Volunteers are expected to:

• Maintain confidentiality according to best practices 

• Provide one on one counselling/coaching to individuals who have gone through intake 

• Maintain case notes in our electronic records system 

• Raise any concerns to the supervisor 

• Schedule a half hour meeting with the program’s supervisor every month 

• Attend regular case management conferences after a certain number of contact hours 

• Utilize our library of career counselling materials and resources
